Female employment rate falls, Italy is at the bottom of the list in Europe in terms of the gender equality in the world of work:however, the new generations represent a chance to revitalize the country system, not only on the social-economic side but also on the cultural side.

To better understand the situation in the world of freelancers, Invoices in the Cloud, a product developed by TeamSystem, conducted a survey of a sample of self-employed workers from different sectors.

This survey shows that the perception of discrimination in terms of earnings at work is well different between men and women . As evidence of this, if in workers is the 36,7% to perceive these disparities, the percentage rises to 47.8 percent Among female workers.

The problem of wage discrimination is especially evident for the same task , even if differently perceived:the 50% of women, in fact, say they notice pay differences more, unlike the 39,1% than men. A further breakdown of the data by business sectors also confirms this significant difference in perception.

There is, however, a slight improvement among female respondents belonging to the Generation Z , that is, between the ages of 18 and 26. In fact, in this age group is the 42,9% of female workers to experience such disparities, while it drops to 20 percent in men. However, it is important to note that younger women often have not yet had children , a major factor in the widening wage gap. 1 in 5 women, in fact, in Italy leave their jobs after their first child.

In most cases, in fact, the wage disparity is due to women choosing to give up their working hours for the family care which, as the European Institute for Gender Equality points out, still falls on the 71% of women in Italy. This translates into lower earnings:demonstrating this, according to a study by the “Working Moms”Observatory it 34,8% Of the women on VAT payroll earns less than 10 thousand , his forehead 15,6% Of men.

For Italy to make progress, therefore, a number of efforts are still needed from institutions and companies, both to ensure women’s participation and access to the labor market and to improve working conditions themselves:this will further support even the younger generation, which already feels pay discrimination less.
