The first meeting with David Gemini put an irrefutable truth in front of me:I do not drink enough water.
From never, I think. Not without trying. Advice from nurses, doctors, as well as dedicated Apps, however, never worked in the long run. Indeed, even the app on the iPhone at one point surrendered to the evidence:I am a basket case.
It took David Gemini like three seconds to tell me “ tu non bevi, vero? ”before leaving me with a recommendation;in fact, it was more like an order: Drink at least 2.5 liters of water a day .
When I started posting in Instagram stories about my progress with water, I got quite a few responses. Virtually all of them said. “I also never drink, I just can’t do it.”, “it’s stronger than me.”, “I tried but then I spend my day in the bathroom.”
Here, on the last one, I would also have my say, because the first few days, yes, it was just like that. To the point that I was slightly teased in the house: “but where are you? still in the bathroom?”And I was responding by paraphrasing Vasco “if you need and can’t find me look for me in the bathroom.”
Still, I persevered. And in all honesty, I have to admit that my body seems to have then slowly gotten used to it, even relatively quickly (aided by the summer season, which, of course, helps a lot in this).
Following David Gemini on social media, there is one term that comes back often in his stories:DISCIPLINE.
But this discipline, what is it about?
Discipline:how do you manage to acquire it
I have never asked David, and maybe I will ask him soon:beyond my obvious need to take in much (much) more water than I was doing (in fact at the end of our first meeting his verdict was without appeal: Non-pathological water retention determined by sedentary lifestyle and unbalanced diet ), isn’t it that somehow the fact of starting this path of ours in a rather soft way with the recommendation to drink water also had as its mission to educate me in constancy and thus, in a certain kind of “discipline”?
To all the people who told me “ I would never make it ”I replied, thinking it was really true:you just have to want it.
Some determination is definitely involved. After all, if one goes to the doctor for bronchitis and then decides not to take the prescribed treatment, one cannot complain later if that bronchitis does not pass.
Simply put, if you want to start on a path, you must also be willing to follow it.
Today almost two months after that first meeting I am not well unless I drink at least two liters, and I also very easily get to three, almost without realizing it.
A certain kind of discipline, then, which I am now slowly trying to apply to physical activity as well. I, who have always hated running and have been running away from any kind of school activity ever since my school days, am beginning to really take a liking to working out (the post-workout feeling of well-being is wonderful).
Discipline and consistency in physical activity:how to succeed?
Without mincing words, on this point, the presence of a personal coach like David Gemini Has been absolutely instrumental. When you start from scratch, having a person to help you, correct you, and support you makes yes, all the difference.
Trivially to make sure that you have correct posture, that you do the movements in the right way, and that you don’t quit after two minutes.
Davide made me run, a lot, and train my back muscles, to strengthen what has always been a weakness of mine that causes me a lot of pain. Very early on, he made me feel my limits, and helped me understand how and why to overcome them.
Our second meeting began with a premise that seemed almost like a threat “today will be very intense.”
What are the best activities, movements, and training to start a wellness journey? A mix we will look at in detail next time.
